


Dr. Smith is the founder of the Orthopedic Institute of Texas and the Surgical
& Diagnostic Center. He came to the Dallas-Fort Worth area after completing
medical school at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine and comprehensive
surgical and orthopedic residency programs.

During the last 25 years, Dr. Smith as been instrumental in strengthening
the orthopedic community. In 1983, he founded the orthopedic residency program
at Northeast Community Hospital where he served as program director until
1990. Dr. Smith serves on the board of the Ambulatory Surgical Association
of Texas. He continues to play an active roll in developing policies affecting
surgery centers through out Texas. Dr. Smith remains actively involved in
patient advocacy. He continues to testify at Texas State Senate hearings
and legislative forums, on behalf of patients rights.
Dr. Smith's dedication to innovative medical programs was honored in 1992 by Merrill-Lynch with their nomination for Entrepreneur of the Year, in 1997 by the Fort-Worth Star Telegram with their Decision Maker's Award and again in 1998 by the National Republican Congressional Committee with the designation of Businessman of the Year.
He is certified by the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery, a fellow of the American Osteopathic Academy of Orthopedics and is a diplomat of the American Osteopathic Association.
Dr. Smith is a certified designated doctor by the Texas Workers' Compensation Commission and has extensive training in conducting impairment ratings by the American Academy of Disability Evaluating Physicians.
